Work & Research
Human-Robot Interaction Engineer, iRobot Corp 2006-present

Led Human-Robot Interaction research and user interface design in the Government & Industrial Robotics Division. Wrote proposals, designed conceptual interfaces, and consulted on many projects in both divisions. Worked on haptic and gestural interfaces, multi-robot controllers, and user experience observations of military users and in-home cleaning. One patent pending, and several patent continuations.
Senior Research Associate, Carnegie Mellon University 2001-2006

Lab Technical Director for the Project on People and Robots using Pearl the Nursebot. Researched Human-Robot Interaction, on dialogue, and humanoid robot appearance and behaviour. Developed robotics software, experiments, robot control GUIs and drivers, and a conversational interface. Managed lab technical development, personnel, & Pearl.
Project Lead for the Web Survey Toolbox, an open source web survey editor. Designed, developed, and managed a suite of user interfaces, databases, and web applications targeted to help academic researchers run web experiments more easily and efficiently, including implementing many web experiments and surveys for various projects.

Founder & President, ReserveSport, LLC 2001-2003
Started a company based off an undergraduate project for making court reservations online. Did HCI, programming, business management, and market research. Due to a small market, the company has retired to open source. With three current sites, the service has been used by more than 4500 users making more than 70,000 reservations.
HCI Consultant, PanGo Networks 2001
Designed, implemented, and evaluated user interfaces for PanGo’s location-based wireless software. Worked as a consultant, directing the user interface design towards a practical short-term UI while documenting HCI issues for long-term development.
